Caregiver support – Alert Level 2

Summary of COVID-19 guidance to support our caregivers.

Establishing education needs and supports for tamariki (PDF 143 KB)

Caregiver social workers and tamariki social workers must work closely to support return to school plans.

We support tamariki to begin to return to school, planning this carefully with the school and taking into account natural anxiety that tamariki, parents and caregivers may be feeling.

We work closely with schools to address any support needs.

We work with caregivers and whānau to ensure there are adequate plans in place to enable tamariki to remain home when they are unwell or if schools are required to close for periods from 72 hours to 14 days if COVID-19 is suspected or confirmed.

Assessment and support for caregivers (PDF 170 KB)

Much of our engagement with caregivers may still be appropriately undertaken by remote means.

Caregiver approval process generally returns to normal. In particular, physical home checks should be reinstated as part of approval process but undertaken safely.

We need to continue to be mindful that caregivers may need support during this time and may be anxious about tamariki returning to things like school and whānau.

Financial support and respite arrangements should be reviewed and may need to continue to support placement stability.

COVID-19 caregiver support needs continue to be identified and addressed but are recorded in the usual Caregiver Support plans, with COVID-19 caregiver support plans no longer used.
