The most important concern in any assessment or investigation of abuse is the immediate safety and wellbeing of te tamaiti or rangatahi.
Interventions
Types of court orders
We need to understand the rights, powers and responsibilities of the different court orders that place a tamaiti in the care or custody of the chief executive. Other orders can also be sought, for example support or services orders.

Assessing information from suitability checks
We need to analyse the information we get from checks, such as police, medical and referee checks. We should consider if caregiver and adoptive parent applicants and their households are suitable and safe.
