Child/young person and family consult
The consult aims to structure our thinking and support decision-making to support oranga, including safety, for tamariki and rangatahi.
Assessment and planning
Allocating a key worker and co-worker
When a child and family assessment, investigation or intervention is required for a tamaiti or rangatahi, a key worker is allocated who holds responsibility for all case activity. A co-worker may assist the key worker for a specific purpose.
Care
Care standards
The National Care Standards set out the standard of care that tamariki and rangatahi need to be well and do well while they're in care, and the support that caregivers can expect to receive.
Adoption
Direct adoption applications to the Family Court
People who want to adopt a tamaiti who is known to them can make an adoption application directly to the New Zealand Family Court. When requested by the court, we assess adoptive applicants and provide a social worker’s report.
Care
Adoptive applicant support and review
Adoptive applicants are reviewed every two years while they're waiting for a placement. We can also offer them support during this time.
Practice approach
See and engage whānau, wider family, caregivers and when appropriate victims of offending by tamariki
I will see and engage with family, whānau, caregivers and victims, in order to understand their needs and ensure they have a say in decisions about te tamaiti.
Care, Policy
Caregivers – Review of caregiver approval
The requirements for the review of a caregiver's approval status.
Youth justice, Interventions, Policy
Youth justice family group conference – convening the conference
When convening family group conferences, we support tamariki, rangatahi, their whānau or family, and victims of offending through a restorative justice process to uphold the mana of all involved.
The education screen
The primary purpose of the education screen is to provide information about the level of educational need for each tamaiti or rangatahi. Where the education screen indicates a high level of concern the youth justice coordinator will seek further consent for an education assessment.
Disability
Working with disabled tamariki and their whānau or family who may need specialised out-of-home care
Disabled tamariki are supported by Oranga Tamariki like all other tamariki who need our support, including if they need to live in out-of-home care.
