We need to be able to recognise different oranga concerns and decide how we can best work with te tamaiti or rangatahi and their whānau or family to support them.Supporting tamariki and rangatahi and their whānau or family
Tamariki and rangatahi may be affected by a range of oranga (wellbeing) concerns that require our support. We need to have an understanding of specialist topics such as:
Preventing suicide and self-harm
Immigration status of tamariki
When adults who have sexually abused have contact with tamariki and rangatahi
Concerning or harmful sexual behaviour
Responding to whānau or family and rangatahi about sexual activity
When tamariki are unsupervised (‘home alone’)
Working effectively with families impacted by violence
Abusing volatile substances (huffing)
Responding to concerns involving extremism or radicalisation
Working with tamariki aged under 5 years
