Family group conferencing

Family group conferencing supports the involvement of family/whānau and the wider family group in decision-making for tamariki. Where tamariki have offended, the victims are also included. Family groups conferences are guided by statutory functions.

About family group conferencing

Family group conferencing is a family/whānau-led process to plan for how to address concerns about tamariki or rangatahi who are in need of care or protection or about offending by tamariki or rangatahi.
Confidentiality and the family group conference

A family group conference is a private and confidential meeting. All discussion and information shared during the conference is privileged.
Care and protection family group conference

At a care and protection family group conference, te tamaiti or rangatahi and their family/whānau come together to create their own solutions for the safety and wellbeing concerns, with support from Oranga Tamariki.
Youth justice family group conference

Youth justice family group conferences are held when tamariki or rangatahi are alleged to have offended or once the charges have been proven. These are convened and facilitated by youth justice coordinators.
