Policy
Subsequent child
This policy advises what we must do when we become aware that the subsequent child provisions of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 (sections 18A to 18D) may apply to a parent and their tamaiti.
Adoption
Approving intercountry adoptive applicants
The New Zealand Central Authority (NZCA) approves intercountry adoptive applicants as eligible and suited to adopt tamariki from overseas. We provide the NZCA with our Home Study assessment report and recommendation to approve the applicants.
Assessment and planning
Sole parent or carer imprisoned
Tamariki and rangatahi have the right to safe, nurturing care while their sole parent or carer is imprisoned. The alternative carer chosen by their parent or guardian needs to be able to meet their needs and provide safe, stable care.
Adoption
Overseas dossier for intercountry adoptions
We collate the documents required for an intercountry adoption. We send this overseas dossier to the New Zealand Central Authority (NZCA) for validation and sending to the country.
Assessment and planning
Assessing the needs of tamariki and rangatahi in care
Tamariki and rangatahi in care often have complex needs. We use Te Puna Oranga to understand the strengths of te tamaiti or rangatahi alongside the challenges faced by them.
Disability
Transitioning disabled rangatahi out of Oranga Tamariki care
What to consider when transitioning disabled rangatahi in Oranga Tamariki care to adult health and disability support services.
