Care
Financial support for tamariki and rangatahi in care
Oranga Tamariki supports tamariki and rangatahi in care to ensure their assessed needs are met. A financial plan sets out the financial support required to meet those needs. We plan proactively and consider the full range of support needs.
Working with children and young people who are placed in a provider placement, supervised group home or residence
This key information provides information about social work and practitioner roles and responsibilities before, during and after a child or young person has been placed with a provider, in a supervised group home or in a residence.
Care
Giving provisional approval
Provisional approval of caregivers requires careful consideration and should only be used in urgent circumstances.
Practice approach
Whakamana te tamaiti: Practice empowering tamariki Māori
I will apply the principles of Mana Tamaiti, Whakapapa and Whanaungatanga to my practice, in order to ensure I’m responsive to tamariki and whānau Māori.
Care
Supporting tamariki with their education and training needs
We support tamariki to access education services both to maintain their learning and to meet their specific educational needs. Good education outcomes are essential to good life outcomes.
Adoption, Policy
Adoption – Facilitating an adoption placement
This policy outlines the steps to facilitate an adoption within New Zealand when birthparents have decided to place their tamaiti permanently with Oranga Tamariki-approved adoptive applicants.
Care, Policy
Transitions within care
We must support a positive and successful transition when tamariki and rangatahi come into care or custody, move to live with a new caregiver, move into, between or out of a residence, return home or live permanently with a new whānau or family.
Assessment and planning
Mass allegation investigations
We work with Police on any allegation of abuse of 3 or more tamariki or rangatahi. We address the care or protection needs of tamariki or rangatahi with support from Police.
Care
Allegations of harm in care or custody
The safety and wellbeing of te tamaiti or rangatahi in care or custody is our first concern when there are allegations of harm or concerns for oranga.
Interventions
Tamariki with offending behaviours
When offending behaviours start in childhood, early interventions need to focus on the underlying care or protection concerns. We apply an oranga lens to help us understand the needs of the tamariki in the context of their whānau or family.
