Care
Planning with rangatahi for their transition from care to adulthood
Planning is agreed and updated by an appropriate, comprehensive whānau decision-making process, such as a family group conference or a hui ā-whānau or family meeting process. It needs to be well facilitated and inclusive.
Interventions
Preparing for the care and protection family group conference
A referral for a family group conference is made when there is a belief that te tamaiti or rangatahi is in need of care or protection, or a conference would help whānau or family make a plan to address the oranga (wellbeing) of te tamaiti or rangatahi.
Assessment and planning
Protect and support the development of tamariki and rangatahi within healthy whānau and families
We aim to build safety through relational, inclusive and restorative practice with whānau and families, and developing a plan that supports oranga and activates resources to keep tamariki and rangatahi safe.
Practice approach

Occurs on: Recording casework

Practice approach
See and engage tamariki — guidance
I will see and engage with each tamaiti I am working with, in order to understand their needs, build their trust and ensure they have a say in decisions.
Assessment and planning
Coercively controlling violence
We notice when a person uses a range of behaviours or actions to dominate, exploit, control and trap another person and we consider the impact on parenting and the oranga of tamariki and rangatahi.
Care
Housing support for whānau or family
Secure and stable housing helps whānau and families care for their tamariki and rangatahi and support oranga. We advocate for them and provide information about the Fast Track process when tamariki and rangatahi are in the custody of the chief executive.
