Practice approach
Our practice approach
Our practice approach is framed by te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) and supported by a mana-enhancing paradigm for practice and draws on Te Ao Māori principles of oranga (wellbeing).
Adoption
What is open adoption
We help expectant parents and adoptive applicants understand how open adoption works and the decisions they need to make.
Assessment and planning
Child Protection Protocol (CPP)
All cases requiring an investigation response are worked in consultation with Police and must follow the Child Protection Protocol. We work to build and deepen our understanding of any harm impacting oranga for te tamaiti or rangatahi.
Adoption, Policy
Adoption – Facilitating an adoption placement
This policy outlines the steps to facilitate an adoption within New Zealand when birthparents have decided to place their tamaiti permanently with Oranga Tamariki-approved adoptive applicants.
Assessment and planning
Talking with and listening to tamariki and rangatahi
When tamariki and rangatahi have been harmed or may be at risk, we engage, talk with them and listen to understand how they’ve been impacted by their experiences to inform our understanding of them and any planning with them, whānau or family and others.
