Child sexual exploitation

We may become aware through a report of concern or while we are working with a whānau or family that someone is accessing, exchanging or producing recordings of the sexual abuse of tamariki or rangatahi (sometimes called child pornography).

When adults who have sexually abused have contact with tamariki or rangatahi

We need to build and deepen our understanding of what safety measures are in place or need to be in place to protect te tamaiti or rangatahi to minimise the risk of further opportunities for sexual abuse.

Concerning or harmful sexual behaviour

When tamariki or rangatahi are involved in sexual behaviour that is developmentally inappropriate or harmful to them or others, we work with te tamaiti or rangatahi to address their needs and we support survivors/victims and whānau or family.

Responding to whānau or family and rangatahi about sexual activity

At times, rangatahi may make decisions or engage in activity that could impact their mana and oranga (wellbeing). This can include engaging in sexual activity with others.

Female genital mutilation

We use a sensitive and considered approach for child protection cases where the practice of female genital mutilation has been alleged.
